Dooyks ada Aks: Currents and Tides

This unit was co-produced with the community of Metlakatla to support exploration of dooyks ada aks (current and tides).  Ts’msyen cultural and physical science perspectives, as well as Sm’algyax language, are woven into the videos, hands-on exploration, research, discussions and readings. Topics covered by this resource include, but are not limited to: safety and hazards in and around the water, appropriate fish net size, Sm’algyax language, harvesting resources, and traditional use of resources. An online Alaska Native Language tool is available to support language usage in the classroom.

Video resources link to the Cultural Connections to Alaska Science Playlist within the education friendly YouTube Channel Alaska Science for All.

A Canvas course is available with multimedia resources directly embedded within the course template.
