Tuttu: Caribou

Tuttu: Caribou was co-produced with the Native Village of Kotzebue and the Qikiqtaġruŋmiut people. This resource is designed to address the Iñupiat Iḷitqusiat (Iñupiat Values), as well as the Iñupiaq Learning Framework, K-12 Science Standards for Alaska, Alaska Cultural Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards. If taught in full, this resource will provide 9th – 12th grade students with an understanding of caribou, their methods of survival, the challenges they face and their role in the lives of the people of Northwestern Alaska. This Teacher’s Manual includes key vocabulary related to caribou in Iñupiaq, the Alaska Native Language of the Iñupiaq people who have inhabited the Northern and Northwestern region of Alaska for millennia. Activity-based assessments are provided for your convenience. An online Alaska Native Language tool is available to support language usage in the classroom.

A Canvas course with multimedia resources directly embedded within the course template will be available soon.
