Ch’oondaii eenjit Gwanzhįh: Medicinal Plants
Pilot testing for this unit will take place in Fall, 2025.
This unit was co-produced with community members of Yukon Flats to support exploration of ch’oondaii eenjit gwanzhįh (medicinal plants). This unit will help students build an understanding of photosynthesis, cellular respiration, homeostasis, a variety of medicinal plants in the Yukon Flats, and preparations/uses of medicinal plants. This resource is designed to address the Athabascan Values, as well as the Gwich’in learning framework, Kheegwadadhaak’a’ “We just keep the fire going,” Science Standards for Alaska, Alaska Cultural Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards.
This guide is for educational purposes and contains information on medicinal plants and their uses, but is not intended to be a guide for self-medication nor for commercial use.
Video resources link to the Cultural Connections to Alaska Science Playlist within the education-friendly YouTube Channel Alaska Science for All.
A Canvas course with multimedia resources embedded in the course template will be made available soon.
